I can't speak for the other cases. However in this instance, the sentence was reduced because of his medical condition. If I recall correctly, dude has kidney cancer as well as other problems. It would cost the state more in free healthcare to incarcerate him than it would be to do it this way. The judge is saving the state millions in treatment costs.
