I grew up with a Wataburger near me. So, I've eaten my weight in them from time to time. loved them.
Was in AZ last year and had one. Just didn't seem all that great anymore, to be honest. Unsure if they changed their toppings or what. It was deeply 'meh'.
On the other hand, went to in-and-out 4-5 times when I was in CA. The burger was really good- especially animal style. But the fries were amazing. When you ordered you could watch workers in the back opening up sacks of potatoes and putting them into hopper to wash and cut them. Super fresh fries.
5-guys fries are close to that french fry perfection. However, 5-guys makes up for that by basically blizzarding you under with french fries. a small bag can feed a family of four.

Whataburgers outside of Texas suffer. I had one in northeast FL earlier this year and found it disgusting.
