WhatsApp isn’t fully deleting its 'deleted' chats
WhatsApp retains and stores chat logs even after those chats have been deleted, according to a post today by iOS researcher Jonathan Zdziarski. Examining disk images taken from the most recent version of the app, Zdziarski found that the software retains and stores a forensic trace of the chat logs even after the chats have been deleted, creating a potential treasure trove of information for anyone with physical access to the device. The same data could also be recoverable through any remote backup systems in place.

Facebook ineptly hoarding your personal data for their own use, and lying about it? Say it isn't so!
Exactly. I stopped trusting facebook a long time ago.
And this is why they were making so much noise about having end-to-end encryption. Did you think they would really challenge the government? They only wanted to make it look like they did so they would get more users.
And yet, these are not the really evil guys. We did not elect them to do the right thing.
That's why I still use Signal and stayed away from WhatsApp. But the majority of people still use whatever is free and connected to Facebook anyway.
At least someone needs to get their hands on the phone (or your cloud backups). But this is the reason why more people should use their own backups and not rely on free cloud stuff. If it's free, the company will find ways to earn money from you.
I wonder, who still expects any privacy when using these apps?
This is like using snapchat and not realizing that snapchat changed the tos to store everything.
