    True, Linux (including Mint) requires some time learning and configuring. But if you aren't into that kind of stuff, then it's likely you aren't into making the most of your computer anyway. If all you want are "apps" that work, then the OS doesn't matter.

    That's true of any computer system. Every time Microsoft comes out with an update to one of its apps I have to retrain my users in how to make them work. Microsoft doesn't have a technical advantage here, just a marketing one.
