The real reason sweet tastes sweet
We tend to think of sugar as the supreme ruler of the sensation of sweetness. If an orange tastes sweet, it's because of the sugars it contains hit the sweet receptors in your taste buds. The same, it’s fair to say, should ring true for any other fruit, from blueberries to tomatoes.

Interesting. On a kind of off-topic note, does anyone remember as a kid describing something as tasting how it smelled, or vice versa. Like say you have a mystery flavor lollipop, and you say it tastes like the smell of a clean bathroom. I remember describing this sensation to my parents and friends forever without anyone ever understanding what the hell I was talking about lol
No,but I must have experienced thus cause I'd often say:"I wish coffee tasted like it smelled."
