Most of these losses was due to lack of security and general stupidity of the holder of the bitcoins, other incidents are clear schemes that portray a hack has happened when in reality the service/site owner made off with the coins. Bitcoin as a currency is secure, sadly the people who handle bitcoins.. no so much.
