Guns can be safe as long as people within the home have the appropriate firearm training which taught them the very basics of gun handling (like always checking the weapon if its loaded before doing anything else no matter what). Of course proper care in storing the weapon and keeping guns (and bullets) away from children is a big one, way too many kids get their hands on loaded weapons and manage to shoot themselves or adults. 100% of these accidents are preventable! The rule of thumb is... don't be a fucking idiot around guns, respect firearms like you would respect a big sharp knife, as I can guarantee that a gun can kill you much quicker.
