I wouldn't say "less intelligent" just "less willing to delve deeper into how the world around us works." Or maybe too lazy to learn anything beyond "because God made it that way."
I must agree, different people believe for different reasons. I wouldn't call someone less intelligent because they have a faith. There is a lot of reasons why someone may have a faith, none of them I expected to be the lack of intelligence.
I wouldn't say that religious people have low IQs but I would say that I find them less intelligent than atheists/agnostics/non-believers, because to me, to deny scientific facts is unintelligent. It also seems as though many devout religious people are brought up in circumstances that inhibit their full intelligence potential--people who are poor, people from third world countries, etc. I think this could contribute to the correlation found in this study.
