I agree... however everyone was expecting this bluffing game from both sides. They just ran out of time, and it was a do or die situation with the entire season at risk.
No matter how you slice it, its all about money and not the fans anymore. Players no longer feel the awesomeness of playing infront of 20k+ excited fans the way it was before, now they would rather trade all of that, risk it... for a bigger pay check. Same goes for the franchise, greedy little pigs.
