Tribal Movie Rewatch Thread 19-26 July 2015: A Goofy Movie

    Greetings

Hi, I'm Soleurs, and I'm one of your tribe moderators! I was going to post this yesterday, but I went to an anime convention (had a Kaneki cosplay from Tokyo Ghoul, it was pretty frickin' awesome). Anyways, welcome to the first iteration of our new weekly movie rewatch thread! Because it's the summer, the season of dads taking us all on road trips, we decided to inaugurate this series with Disney's penultimate road trip movie: A Goofy Movie.

    Introduction

For those of you who have never seen A Goofy Movie, I'll provide a short, spoiler-free intro to the movie, courtesy of IMDB: "When Max makes an preposterous promise to a girl he has a crush on, his chances to fulfilling it seem hopeless when he is dragged onto a cross-country fishing trip with his embarrassing father, Goofy."

Anyways, it's a great story of a father-son bonding trip that makes me get the feels every time (but that's easy to do with Disney flicks), and reminds me of the road trips I took with my dad when I was younger.

    Viewing Methods

Because we're a gracious tribe, we're providing you with legal ways to view the movie, since we all love Disney. (We do not condone pirating the movie. Please do not post links to piracy websites or the like.)

The Official Disney Tribe Movie Rewatch Thread - Suggestions

    Introduction

So, it's been suggested by CaptainMarvel in our suggestion thread that we have a weekly thread for "rewatching" a Disney or Disney-licensed (i.e. Touchstone, Studio Ghibli, etc.) movie. The moderation team wants to hear what you, the people, have as ideas for what we could watch! So, list off some of your ideas you have for us! I'll be providing a Wikipedia link below to give you some ideas.

    Guidelines

    Guideline #1

The movie must be a Disney or Disney-licensed film. Films produced by Studio Ghibli (whose films are licensed by Disney for American dub and release although not owned by Disney), Pixar, and Disney's other studios, such as Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures, are also acceptable. Examples include Frozen, Monsters Inc., Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, or My Neighbor Totoro. Lucasfilm movies, although distributed by other studios, ARE ACCEPTABLE. This includes Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

    Guideline #2

Even though Disney, even under guise of Touchstone, rarely makes an R-rated film, we prefer that your suggestions be kept in the PG-13 and below range. This is NOT a requirement. R-rated submissions will still be accepted, but we like to keep it family friendly.

    ==================

I'll start us off with some ideas:

    • Spirited Away
    • Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
    • Tron
    • WALL·E
    • Hercules

And if you need ideas, visit this Wikipedia page.

    Tomorrowland: Criticisms, Comments, and Compliments

Good day, I'm Soleurs and I'm here to ask your opinions on Disney's latest live action film: Tomorrowland. There's been so much mixed reception in the movie, so I want to hear what you folks think! I'll start.

Spoilers are clearly marked. You have been warned. Tomorrowland is a fantastic movie that delves in to the concept of what is wrong with our world and what we could be doing to fix it (A long, and true, speech from Nix is devoted to this). It deals with our dreams, our realities, and what we could be doing to bring the two together. I for one loved it, all the little hints of Disney everywhere, from "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" at the beginning of the movie, to Space Mountain being hidden there in the Tomorrowland scenery. While the story was not as great as it could've been, with some overused clichés (especially surrounding the death of Athena), the movie still is a must-see for any true hardcore Disney fan.
