I won a full-sized bag of Red Hots in the first grade. Our class had a Valentine's Day party and we had to guess how many Red Hots were in the jar to win a full bag. I won and I still remember how excited I was, all these years later. I shared the bag with everyone on my bus ride home.

I've also won a piece of art by a local photographer, $50 in a peel off (similar to a scratch off) when I was a kid, and I won a case of gum for blowing the second biggest bubble in a Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum competition when I was a kid. I've also won some random mugs and other trinkets in various competitions.

Call your local dental school. You may be able to afford them.

Early onset dementia runs in my family and watching my mother slowly wither away is horrible. I wish that I had the option to test my genes or spinal fluids to see if I have these markers. Horrible horrible disease.

Orchestrated marriage proposals and flash mobs. Actually, I think both are dying out or dead now, but I still bear the scars.

Drinking enough water when taking pills; many of them can cause drug-induced esophagitis or worse if they have prolonged contact with your esophagus.

Really good read. It was interesting that they noted that as people became more well to do they were more likely to turn to alternative medicine as they could afford it if something went wrong.

The article also pointed out that, in the US system, patients are more like consumers; they can pick and choose whatever treatments they can afford, whether or not those treatments have been scientifically tested. Don't like what your doctor has to say? Go elsewhere.

Though I do have to say that, when I was economically disadvantaged and had shitty insurance in the US, I turned to alternative medicine because I could not afford to go to a doctor.

Agreed. I signed up for voat, not realizing that there was a lot of the hate speech that was making reddit so unpalatable.
