I'd say, if you want to try something similar, without immediately having a batch of brownies you don't like, try making something like candied bacon (NSFW Language).
These brownies are really nice, gooey brownies where you occasionally get to enjoy a piece of bacon. The saltiness of bacon does super well to compliment the extreme sweetness that brownies have sometimes.
