Even on a bronze low cost plan it's expensive for those of us not earning a lot. I can't imagine what would happen if the price went up 40% a month. I think I'd just drop out and say forget it, I'll pay the penalty and save some money to do so.

And every year, the insurance companies will keep hiking rates, and the government will keep increasing the fee. What a fucking racket.

Absolutely, last year there was a hike in some areas of between 8 and 16% and this year they want between 20 and 40%, I guess next year they'll need between 50 and 60%.

I don't understand how there aren't laws banning stuff similar to this, it's obviously a huge money grab. Then again, the health industry has never been known for NOT doing huge money grabs...

Supposedly this would be stopped by the checks and balances of the Affordable Care Act | AKA Obamacare.

Everybody would be required to have and pay for insurance, that meant the insurance companies would get a lot more money to insure the millions that had never had insurance before. In return the insurance companies would not stop sick people from having insurance because sick people would be fewer than all the new payers. In return the insurance companies would agree that anything 10% or less would not need government approval when increasing rates, but anything more than that does, meaning that the government has the option of denying the high requests or telling them they cannot go over their 10%. It's an asinine system that should never have happened. Instead of being an affordable care act it was a boost the insurance industry act. It'll be telling if the Government allows this to happen year after year.

What a shit-show, I really can't believe anyone thought this would be a good idea. Why should the government care if the insurance companies hike the rates? I'm sure they're really worried about more people choosing to pay the "fee" instead.

I'm fairly certain they've planned for that at least at first by increasing the penalty every year. I assume at some point that penalty will flat line and then they'll try and rush through or attach new penalty increases into a future bill.

Just why did you folks think the Insurance companies were so all-in? LOL Wait until you see the full effects of this legislation in 2016, none positive.

Many believe it was built to fail on purpose, this was made in a way that wasn't workable with the US people and economy and if it collapses it'll give a presumably democratic legislature or president the ammunition to go after the ultimate goal of a Health Services Universal Single Payer system much like England's. I don't know how true that is, but looking at how this crapshow has gone so far, it's destined for failure.

Just out of curiosity, is there any data on how much the costs of these companies is increasing, say due to increased in doctor's fees or increase in process of medicines etc. ?
