I agree with you on this point.
The increase in police violence and police home invasions is mostly due to the "War of Drugs"... Pedophile Jared "6-inch" Fogel is only looking at 6 years for sex with minors... meanwhile, we have people sitting in prison on 3 strike rules that did nothing more dangerous than grow a plant for the purpose of lighting it on fire. Our priorities in this country are vastly screwed up!
I was right there with you up to this point: "The middle class is going broke paying for poor people's everything"
In reality, more of our taxes go to corporate welfare than to social welfare programs. On average, each tax payer is paying around $50/year for social welfare programs -- while a vast majority of our taxes go to corporate subsidies and bail-outs.
Of course, the moment I want to find the source to share it, I can't... I will say it was an info-graphic that was shared with me months ago -- it purported to show the breakdown of what each taxpayer pays on average for things like Food Stamps, and other social welfare programs compared to the extreme amount of taxpayer money that is being spent on corporate welfare programs (like a bail out of banks and financial institutions). I was shocked by how much less I am spending to pay for social welfare than for corporate welfare, which is why it stuck in my head. I will see if I can dig up the info-graphic again and share it with you.
