I think if a man slept with a female boss, didn't get a promotion, then sued his employer for almost the exact amount his bankrupt wife was in debt for... There would be plenty of questions over the credibility of that man. There are plenty of women being discriminated against because they're women... Ellen Pao does not happen to be one of those women though.

That's still terrible advice. I don't think there is a lawyer on the planet who would recommend that telling acknowledging you did the wrong thing to a police officer is a good thing. That is what court is for down the track.

Staying calm is incredibly good advice. Admitting guilt when you don't know exactly what they are going to charge you with is a bad idea. You may not be fully aware of the repurcussions for whatever crime you may have caused, and you may be giving them more evidence by speaking than they have without you speaking.

I know you mean well, but I think that is the worst possible advice you can give to anyone for anything other than a minor traffic violation. Also can be highly dependent on your ethnicity, like it or not, minorities do get treated differently to majorities almost everywhere on earth when it comes to justice in the legal system.

Your lawyer gets paid to minimise damage to you as a clients Policemen have monthly targets on cases to close. It's wise to not confuse the role of one for the other. A policemen is never there to prove your innocence, even though he may be telling you otherwise.

I can loan you my father.... He may be able to assist you.

He insisted upon us children avoiding pausewords to the point where if we said "um" or "ahh" to him, we had to write out the offending pause word one hundred times on a piece of paper and present it to him as proof. I thought he was being a horrible parent at the time, but I appreciate it now... I think that was my dads style of parenting though. Be the unpopular guy for 20 years, Have a good 40 years with his children after that. It's worked for the most part.

Loved the idea of pulling sick tricks on a skateboard when I was about 6. Sisters around 10 years old wanted to be cool too. Dad got us a quarter pipe as a trial. Within 24 hours, I fell off the top of said quarterpipe and landed face first onto bluestone. Have a permanent scar between my top lip and my nose. Also no longer have a quarter pipe.

You are granted the ability to wish to have fireballs... In fact... It was in you the entire time... You just had to say it out loud.

You can not however, throw fireballs.

Most people wouldn't really consider me to be a big retro gamer, but I love old games. I've tried collecting the SNES and the n64 libraries before (PAL), but everytime I get into it, I give up. My collections are at five games in total for each system and I consider them complete for me. Both those collections are just the games that I played when I was a kid either at my house, or at friends houses... I never even owned a SNES. My parents weren't too fond of videogames and didn't tend to buy many (we never rented either), but I don't think I lost out. I loved the games I had, I played them to death, and I love playing them again now. It's hard to build nostalgia on games I can't remember playing, so I am not going to bother.

Collections are: N64: Mario Kart, Wave Race, Mario 64, Wayne Gretzkys 3D hockey, and Goldeneye. Snes: Link to the past, Mario Allstars, Street Fighter 2, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart.

Adult me on the other hand... well... Adult me has a bit of a problem. I've always wanted a complete collection and I am finally giving it a go at the age of 30. I didn't play the Gamecube the first time around, but due to the amazing library, and the current cost of Gamecube titles... I am giving it a go! About 160 games in and loving it! I think its terribly underrated for what it is... but I shouldn't start about getting into that uninvited because you may not have the hours free to read the end of the post..

Edit: On a side note, I also have the original Gameboy clearcase model too, just like I had as a kid. Home consoles were never big in the house as I mentioned earlier, but I did alright with the Gameboy. Games are dirt cheap for that system too, and if I see games I played as a kid, I pick them up. I still rank Link's Awakening as the best gaming experience I ever had. Listening to Ballad of the Windfish still makes me teary.

One memory that always brings a smile to my face is ten year old me buying primal rage, being ridiculously disapointed with the shitfest it was, and trying to take it back to the store owner for a refund. My logic behind him having to refund me was that there was an error with the game because "default" changed all my settings. Did not understand what default meant, just thought it meant error.

I try to avoid using the phrase "As a..." because it implies that people who also share that characteristic will agree with me, when most of the time I say "As a..." There will be disagreement within whatever field I am saying. e.g. "As a man...", "As an Australian...", "As a gamer...".

I also avoid using "Umm", "Like" and "Ahh" wherever possible. It takes a while, but if you pay close attention to the way you speak, you will slowly phase it out, and then you will just avoid it by default.

There is nothing that will force them to pick a real reason, there is something that will force them to pick any reason. I've worked in note type/interaction classification analysis in a CRM system for more than one company any when you go from a system of not leaving notes as a habit, to forcing people to leave classifications, you find that some groups inevitably get set up as default options by users unless their classifications are being audited and managed.

By forcing people to leave value, It doesn't just mean you are getting nonsense data input into one category, it means you are also losing the true value of the category as it is not possible to distinguish the true values from the default entries (nonsense data).

Yep, definitely. I appreciate there is a very big difference between fph and my viewpoint, but I also believe that many people will group my viewpoint with fph, in order to right it off. For the record, I think that someone who is morbidly obese and doesn't preach their lifestyle should be treated just the same as everyone else in society. I don't bring up weight with my overweight friends and I don't bring up weight with my skinny friends.

I collect used videogames and I like getting things for good prices so I can build my collection (Going for a complete PAL Gamecube Collection). If you know anything about region locking on old videogame systems, you will know that PAL region instantly means double the price, then times it by another 30% if you want the Australian classification sticker on it for the rarer games!

Anyway, to get back on topic... I now predominantly buy bulk lots of videogames for cheap prices, then resell the remaining titles I already have leftover. I usually sell my items well below what the market is charging because I have an issue with driving up prices due to it stinging me in the ass when I want to find stuff for myself! Gotten a lot of titles virtually for free because I am willing to take the time to drive a little, buy up big, seperate into piles, then put them on the market. Most auctions/sales I sell go within a few minutes recouping my costs.

The bonus is It's not just saving a chunk of change... it's also making friends (which I am not typically great at) and building a community where everyone wins.

    Edit:

Dear fellow Australians, before buying anything new, have a look at ozbargain.com.au Probably the best website in the country for saving money. Before buying anything tech related, used staticice.com.au a price comparison website. Hope these additional links might save some people some money.

This pretty much says "We will only protect something that does not require protection". Seems to defeat the purpose of protection existing.
