I tried hangouts on my computer/Chrome (before), I really liked hangouts, I stayed with Skype. Why? Well Skype is what my friends all use and its recent layout revamp was decent.
I currently just use hangouts (on my phone) to communicate to family members and one friend who cannot use Skype on their computer. All of my personal friends who I talk with the most are on Skype. Plus, I've never been a fan of how they integrated it with Google+ but now they are reversing it so that is good news.
