Yeah...that was a dumb thing to say and pretty much outlines why so many people are getting frustrated with the company/admins as a whole.
Personally, I feel like it's become pretty clear that Reddit as a company is pushing to make the site more palatable for advertising so that can drive more revenue on that front. The problem is, they know they can't just tell users that they they are changing their core values to support more advertising, so they have to constantly lie.
