My ex-wife complained about that once, saying she deserved to go out and do fun things too, and shouldn't be forced to miss out because she has children. I reminded her that while this is perfectly true, we chose to have children. Other people don't get to choose whether or not our children are responsible for making a fuss and ruining the experience for everyone. Since we couldn't afford a babysitter and didn't have family nearby to serve, we had to live with the consequences of our choices.

It didn't last forever, of course. Our children grew as children do, and they learned how to behave themselves in public. We were again free to participate in adult society.
