I mean of all candidates for potentially "alien" life the octopus is such a simplistic choice. I mean yes it looks odd to us visually but it is clearly an animal. I like the theory, if it is one, that a comet spurred life on earth. That way we are all aliens technically. If another separate living molecule were to land on earth we would know pretty quickly. But I guess there may be some deep sea creature or fungus type organism that is truly alien, but I feel we would have found it by now.
