The Daily Grind: Why is quashing MMO cheating so damn hard?

Massively OP Kickstarter donor Daveha is not amused with an MMO industry that seems content to let cheaters get away with their nefarious deeds.

Honestly, I think saving Reddit is entirely possible. Content is king, and if anything, this drama is just generating more content for people to consume when they browse /r/all looking for drama. Reddit is still a hugely popular site, and outside of some of the default subreddits, most people aren't going to see/care about these types of changes until it affects Reddit as a whole.

It really comes down to whether Reddit as a company can continue operating without instituting some broad changes that drive away users (pop up flash ads, etc). But the site is still running strong. The difference between Digg and Reddit is that most of this Reddit drama is around stuff mostly unrelated to using the site on a daily basis. If you only browse /r/games, you would never even know any of this was going down. Whereas with Digg, it was changes/policies that affected every single user of the site in obvious ways.

I have to say, Reddit has been a ridiculous source of drama for the past few weeks. Its almost like someone is scripting this stuff.

Yup, content is king. Post snaps and comment whenever you can. It can be depressing when you post a snap that gets upvotes, but no comments. Personally, I use sites like Reddit/Snapzu as much for the comments as the links. If all I cared about was links, I would stick to my RSS feed.

Not a bad list of things to look for during the development practice. It's funny how often you can forget some of the basics.

The fact the creator of this had the roms built in was a major red flag, that's a big nono...

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that you can't provide the games in these situations. That line has existed pretty much since emulators became popular. Provide the tools, not the content.

That's to be expected in these situations. It's easier to create a good vs evil narrative if you judge the community as a single entity made up only of the people you are looking to criticize the most.

Snapzu, while being a place that doesn't ban discussion, is a place that seems to value friendlyness over freeze peach. We had people try to make /t/fatpeoplehate here, and the only post in the tribe is a LOTR meme saying that it won't fly here.

Its easy to make these determinations when the topic is a community like FPH. But what happens when the decisions are not so clearcut? That's where sites struggle as they grow in popularity. It's not the FPH communities that start the problem, it will be things like religious tribes vs atheist tribes. Or liberal tribes vs conservative tribes. Or even console gaming tribes vs pc gaming tribes.

EVE Evolved: It’s never too late to start playing EVE

Any time an in-depth discussion pops up about EVE Online, it’s never long before someone pipes up with the complaint that new players just can’t compete with veterans. EVE has been out for over 12 years now, and thanks to its realtime skill training mechanic, there are players who seem to have up to a 250 million skillpoint head start.

Witcher 3 Patch Notes: Gravity Will Apply To All Horses

“Various improvements to horse behavior”. That was a patch note Marsh showed me last week. I had hoped it was one of God’s own patch notes and He was finally going to address the problems with those four-legged jerks but apparently it was CD Projekt Red talking about The Witcher 3 [official site] and the upcoming 1.07 patch. Disappointing.

The RPG Scrollbars: Serpent In The Staglands

My first real act as a god was getting killed. By a wolf. Just outside my own sorta-temple. If any of my followers are listening, write that down in your scrolls and I’ll drop the moon on you.

I've tried this game a few times but the combat always felt "off" for some reason. With all the updates though, I've been thinking about giving it another shot.

I've always been curious if this is actually something worth paying our if it's just popular because it's so weird.
