it's not a problem though. The rift valley has been known about for a while. It is actually just really interesting science. The rift is not something catastrophic like the impending PNW earthquake or Yellowstone erupting. It's just a gradual separation of a tectonic plate. Over millions of years, it will create a new ocean that splits up the SE corner of Africa from the rest of the continent. It's not scarespam, it's simply geologic activity. There is a similar rift zone in the middle of Russia, but it has much thicker crust so it will probably behave differently.
