I think so many Australians shake their heads at gun violence in other countries. The genie analogy does not hold true. Gun buy backs, amnesties and penalties for illegal firearms have worked in Australia (and other countries). Yes we still have illegal guns and occasional shootings but the numbers speak for themselves. And those who have legitimate need for a firearm are not hampered-plenty of farmers, hunters and sporting shooters going about their business safely and responsibly. The laws were changed because the parliament is not held to ransome by lobby groups.
