Scientists at a US science conference have said it is now time to actively try to contact intelligent life on other worlds.
In 1938, Orson Welles narrated a radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds" as a series of simulated radio bulletins of what was happening in real time as Martians arrived on our home planet. The broadcast is widely remembered for creating public panic, although to what extent is hotly debated today.
Still, the incident serves as an illustration of what could happen when the first life beyond Earth is discovered. While scientists might be excited by the prospect, introducing the public, politicians and interest groups to the idea could take some time.

Yeah that was definitely an interesting incident. I for one am against signalling advanced aliens until at least we are advanced enough to defend ourselves.
I think he's right. We need to be able to contact a much more intelligent being so that when we do create an ASI we can do a galactic robot wars while we sit back and watch it unfold :D As if we needed more ways we can kill off humanity haha
Because we haven't been trying already?
Not actively. SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, is passive. It scans for possible signs of extraterrestial life in several ways. http://en.wikipedia....estrial_intelligence He is suggesting actively signalling into space to contact aliens. Maybe not a good idea if they're like those in "Mars Attacks!"...
