While I think its progressive to crush ivory to show support for Elephants, and educate people not to buy ivory it feels like it's not doing much to actually stop the killing. Why not focus on taking out the poachers somehow, hit the problem at its source.

Because it isn't working. They can't get enough cooperation from local authorities and the trade is lucrative enough to warrant high bribes along with risking the penalties. So when you can't cut off supply, the next tactic is to attack demand. If it becomes unfashionable to buy or own ivory, it stops being lucrative.

It's always corruption at the end of the day. What a world we live in.

That's a thought, I'll add it to corruption.

Ya, I really doubt that these poachers would listen much to activism.

What about the concept of supply and demand? Less supply equals higher prices, no?

Yeah they just drove the price of ivory up even higher by doing this while further endangering the elephants. Stupid.
