Facebook. Where "I really care about you and what you're going through" and "but I really don't want interact with you in a face-to-face manner" meet.
Even if this helps one person it's worth it.
Agreed, I'm just worried that people will try and abuse this system to get attention.
A high percentage of suicide attempts are to get attention, and if they are going to such lengths to get it, they should. Sadly, a lot of people that do it end up actually killing themselves even if they weren't really prepared to go through with it. I had a friend that died after swallowing pills, he changed his mind but it was too late. He died an excruciating death in the hospital... makes me sad every time I think about it.
