    What I've learned: running does not need to be expensive.

    I know this may be in contrast to one of the points in the article:

    Running isn't free or even cheap.

    It definitely is not free, but it can be cheap depending on your goals and what you want to accomplish in your running. I think a lot of new runners make the mistake of buying all sorts of new gear right off the bat. After the first week, they purchase high tech running watches, heart rate monitors, protein powder, and ultra-lightweight polyester anti-microbial leggings. All of these items can help in some way, but they are not necessary. Some runner's get overwhelmed with the financial side of running, that they don't end up running at all.

    If you want to run and don't have the cash, don't let that stop you. Put on your shorts/pants/underwear, put on your shoes (or nothing at all) and run. You can upgrade your gear one at a time when you feel you need it, but it doesn't have to be right away and all at once.
