Tim Hunt, 72-year-old Nobel laureate, is currently at the centre of a big controversy for his remarks about women in science. He argued that gender-segregated labs were the answer, because “they cause men to fall in love with them and cry when criticised”.

The British biochemist, who became a Royal Society fellow in 1991, said the remarks were "intended as a light-hearted, ironic comment" but had been "interpreted deadly seriously by my audience." He went on to say he stood by some of the remarks.
