Also, if you have a french press / cafetiere, they make good cold brew makers (just because you don't have to faff about with filters). I take cold brew coffee with me on bike rides... love it.

I always use a French press! They're great. I like not having to "faff about" with filters, as you say. You drink iced coffee on bike rides? Now there's a sports drink I could get into, lol. ;)

They really are, so long as you grind coarse to avoid the sludge. And, well, you know, it just wouldn't be cycling without performance enhancing drugs now would it. I'm joking of course, but caffeine does do wonders against muscle fatigue. Just makes sure you take water too to avoid dehydration. This is a pretty good summary on caffeine and cycling.

I've become fond of the sludge, is that weird? I do use a coarse grind, but it always has that little bit of grit to it anyway.

Wow, what a great summary! I really didn't know caffeine was used like this. I can see the diuretic effect being a problem as you don't want to get dehydrated... or have to stop a lot! ;)

Many road cyclists limit their caffeine consumption to a bottle of coke diluted with water during training rides...

Eww, that sounds vile! I can see why you stick with coffee. :D

Yes. Yes it is. But I won't hold it against you.

And to be honest I don't drink coffee for the boost, I drink it because it's delicious! But I'm no competitive cyclist. Diluted coke does sound vile. But do you want to know what's really gross? If you're a serious cyclist on a long race, the diuretic effect of caffeine might not be enough to warrant a stop. I won't go into detail on that, but I gather the trick to it is in twisting your hips away from your bike slightly...

But, um, yeah, cold brewed coffee is great.

              lalalala, I can't hear you...

Seriously though, you keep my secret about the French press sludge, and I promise never to mention this terrible cyclist secret to anyone ever! shudders
