    As long as websites are up front about it and there's a safe method of doing then I'm actually okay with this practice.

      I actually think this is much better than tracking and ad serving. Even in the scenario where they don't tell you they're doing it. In one case, they're overtly using your idle CPU cycles to make money. In the other, they're overtly collecting information about what you like, your browsing habits, and who knows what other psychological/behavioral descriptors about you they feel are potentially relevant. And keeping that information in a database that can be hacked, or provided to governments, without your permission.

        Totally agree. I run uBlock Origin, uBlock Origin Plus and Privacy Badger to cut down on all the tracking and ads as much as I can. I'm good with sites earning a little revenue by unobtrusive means.
