Sensible idea. Drown out big corporation money with money from the people.
I don't agree. First you have to convince that many people that they wouldn't just be throwing their money away since they're already being told that their votes don't really count. And second in a game of brinksmanship like that I feel confident in saying that corporate and 1% resources far outstrips those of everyone else.
There's the problem right now, though. There's no limit to how much money can be thrown at buying U.S. politics under the Roberts Court. This idea copes with that; rejecting the idea out-of-hand doesn‘t.
My problem isn't that I don't like the idea. I'm a huge fan of Act Blue. My problem is that in an arms race between corporate interests and crowdfunding, I have more confidence in the ability of corporate interests to outspend everyone else. If we were to set up a campaign finance program where money donated was doled out evenly or simply returned to limiting the amount of money a single person or organization could donate, I think we'd see much better results.
