I think it's becoming more and more clear that one of the worst things you can do for the environment is to have a manicured grass lawn.
1. it uses most of your household's water
2. it has shallow roots
3. it doesn't attract bees or butterflies or other beneficial insects
4. it's only redeeming qualities are looks and how it feels on your bare feet (how often do most people walk around barefoot outside nowadays anyway...)
