Let's face it. The majority of people out there are pretty stupid and they don't want to read a bunch of words on a screen. They want their cat pics and celebrity gossip, and thanks to the popularity of tablets and smartphones, they can check out buzzfeed articles during commercials to their reality TV without even getting off the couch.

There will always be a market for intelligent discussion and in-depth investigative journalism. The site we're on right now is a great community that does just that. But the internet is becoming mainstream and that means that, just like cable TV, we'll have to sift through a whole lot of stupid to get to the good stuff.

Right, just because cat pics and celebrity gossip are more popular than the things that you and I like doesn't mean the internet is dead. If anything there is much more intelligent discussion and in-depth investigative journalism now than there was 10 years ago because the internet as a whole is so much larger. If the gossip and cats deleted and replaced the in depth stuff that would be another story, but in the mean time the internet is huge and there is room enough for everyone.
