How would this development reduce shortages of food? It’s not like the food is printed out of thin air, it still required all the basic materials that make food.. "food"
This development means that theoretically any food can be broken down to its building blocks. It can then be synthesized into whatever food someone wants to print. This is HUGE, it will revolutionize the food industry as we know it. It will put an end to the slaughtering of animals, the inefficiency of transporting fresh food in trucks that take up man power, fuel and road space. Although Im excited for this, I am also worried that it may be harmful to us in the long run, I guess time will tell. We are living in exciting times, enjoy every breath you take and watch it all unravel.
Either way, material is still needed to print the food. This material will not be cheap, and thus will not be freely available to anyone that has access to one of these printers.
