OK, first a disclaimer: I don't like Trump at all. I also don't like the Democrats at all. I'm not sure which one I dislike more, but that's beside the point.

Having said that, can someone explain to me why this is a problem, or whether a crime has been committed? I'm overwhelmed by the amount of hot air being blown about this Russian thing, and I'm not sure what I should take seriously anymore. My gut tells me "nothing", but maybe I'm missing some important fact.

If by 'crime' you mean according to applicable law, then no.

If, instead, you mean under some new law you wish made it a crime, say for instance you're working to get Clinton elected back in '16, then sure. This is a game Clinton Democrats play to avoid taking any kind of actual policy position that might involve not accepting checks in future.
