The one child policy has been lifted in 2015 allowing 2 children per family. China realized its aging population was disproportionate. Having said that, China culture historically values males over females , so that is another contributing factor for the imbalance, in fact selective abortion for girls only has been made illegal.
I've often said if they want males so much,they should find a way to give half of all males pouches and the ability to produce babies like seahorses..Only male babies (half with pouches) would be birthed of course. If I was a sf writer,I'd do a novel dealing with what would happen in a society where this occurred.
The unintended consequences would be quite interesting,to say the least.
