Maybe comets didn’t bring Earth its water, it was made here
A question scientists have asked is, where did all that water come from? Many have pointed to the abundant water in the cometary belt and said there is where it came from. Some have hypothesized that somewhere in the first 500 million years after the Earth formed, it was hit with millions of icy comets. It is a popular hypothesis taught as fact, in high schools, and colleges, despite the only significant evidence for it is there is water there and here.
