Doesn't the new update allow to turn the animations off?
Yep, in iOS 7.03, you can turn on "Reduce Motion" If you prefer raw speed over fancy animations. Turning on Reduce Motion will makes the operation with iOS 7-running iPhones and iPads feel considerably faster.
