Hankins says she lived in a storage room and struggled even to find food when she came out of prison. "I was in a perfect predicament to commit a crime," she says, but she was determined to live on the straight and narrow. "And you say, well, we are going to see if Vikki Hankins is going to commit more crimes — are you kidding?

This is the perfect sentence to summarize why it's important to give ex-felons a chance. If no resources are available to them they are set up in the same position (or even worse as most of the time no one will hire them) that they were in before entering prison. This leads to drug users starting again and being sent back to prison.
