Scientists urge government to fund basic research
A survey of 12 countries, including Canada, shows that scientists are concerned about the drop in government support of basic science in favour of applied research that leads to short-term benefits.

I'd like to see a country run under a technocracy for a few years, just to see how things go. I think it could really benefit in some areas. "Basic research" is vitally important, and I think overlooked by most people and governments.
