GMOs are not safe. Nor are they unsafe. They are neutral like most of our technology. It really depends on who makes them. The real issue is do you trust the people who are making them. If they are being made by large corporations who own the patents on the genetic material, who have a huge interest in spruiking the wonders of GM tech and lobbying to relax the safety testing, and fund the testing, why should people trust them?
So true, and here's an example that draws personal parallels I have around it all: I abhor Nestle (Monsanto/Bayer/Dupont/Dow/Syngenta) for their water harvesting (biotech gene patenting) practices. Yet this does not incriminate water (GMO's), just the evil players in the game.
