GlassReflection Anime Review: Shirobako

A Glass Reflection Anime Review of Shirobako.

  • Synopsis

In a certain girls' school in northeastern Japan, five friends in the animation club, Aoi, Ema, Shizuka, Misa, and Midori swear to complete a new anime called "Shinbutsu Konkou SHICHIFUKUJIN" with some donuts. Since then, day after day, the five spend all of their time on anime production. The awe from going from rough sketches having them move on the computer... and the awkward acting in the after recording session... The final product was finished at the cultural fair that happened six months later. Aoi watches the audiences' reactions... After the five had graduated they still pursued animation and swore on some donuts that they would make another anime together. Two and a half years later, Aoi was working at Musashino Animation as a new production assistant. However her expression now is rather exhausted, unlike the excitement and hope she showed in her student days. That night, they were going to show the project Aoi was supervising, "Exodus!" episode 1. Despite it being midnight, the staff at the office gathers into the theater room and they are all about to watch the episode. This meant that the battle of one cour, 13 episodes was about to begin. Her former club member, Ema, also works at Musashino Animation as a new animator. Shizuka is trying to become a voice actress, but keeps failing at auditions. Misa is learning how to do effects at a CG company. And finally, Misa is in college, hoping to become a script writer. What awaits Aoi and the others who jumped into the world of animation? And will there ever be a day where the five rejoin and are able to create an anime?

I would really not list the fact that industry slang is present as an actual issue. Most of the words used are either explained rather quickly, or can easily be picked up from context in the show.
