Ancient Roman coins found buried under ruins of Japanese castle
Archaeologists were left baffled by the "strange" discovery of ancient Roman coins buried in the ruins of a castle in Japan. The four copper coins were retrieved from soil beneath Katsuren Castle on Okinawa Island, and were originally thought to be a hoax before their true provenance was revealed.

Why would they be baffled? The Roman Empire lasted more than a thousand years meaning they had tons of opportunity to get there, Mongol's came pretty much to both borders, I'm pretty sure one of the Khans tried to take Japan and failed, the silk road for trading goods probably had some of these coins deep in places they wouldn't normally be found, I just don't see how they could be baffling.
