Introduce yourself and/or your world!

Hello people. To get this community going I figured we could have a round of introducing ourselves and our worlds (for those who have one)

I'll start. You can call me Snowy. I'm a Danish teenager. I have been building my science fantasy universe for about a year now (though some things I've done before then). I love tea, games, movies and I play table tennis. My universe has around 50 star systems and 15 sentient races. It is quite large and I need to work a lot on it before it's a proper whole. So how about you guys?

Hi, my Name is Michael, coming from Russia and living in Germany. I am pretty much completely New to World building. It has grasped my interest just yesterday when I had fun chatting with a member of this tribe, so I am giving it a try because it seems like a fun Hobby! I already have a sort of plan in my head what my Universe is based around on, so I am not starting out with absolutely no ideas :)

I will be making my first drafts on TerraChronica and I hope to have a great time with you guys!

Hi I'm bananasplitlady. I'm a creative writing student and I just took a world building class at my university last semester. I'm working on a medieval fantasy world in which practicing magic has been banned for about a hundred years. The church, that spans the two countries my story is set in, tests children for magic abilities and if they show any signs, they are taken away from their families to be removed of their powers at a special institution (where they're killed). I'm still working on my world even though I finished my class. Perhaps I can get some ideas or suggestions from this tribe.

Some other things about me: I'm a chair member and one of the founders of my university's science fiction and fantasy club, and I'm specifically in charge of gaming. I'm mostly a computer gamer but since I helped form the club I've started playing tabletop board games and rpg games. I've even done some LARPing until the group I met with changed their meetings to a time I had to work. I also play the piano, though I'm not as good as I used to be anymore. I also enjoy knitting and crochet.

Hi bananasplitlady. Welcome to the tribe.

I'm interested to hear more about your world. Why has magic been banned? Which god does the church follow? What is the name of your world? What are the cultures of the two countries like? Is anything known about other countries of the world?

Also, you sound like an energetic person taking on so many hobbies :)

Ok, I just want to say "Welcome to the tribe" sounds so much cooler than "Welcome to the sub"

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry it took me a while to respond, but I've been busy with family over the holiday and I was typing up a summary (which is still really long) of my world for you in the small moments I had to myself.

Aciena is the name of my world, and the two countries my story spans over which are called Ciercel and Durain. To understand why magic has been banned you need to know some of the history of the two countries. Since the beginning of Aciena, until a hundred years before the current setting of my novel, those who had the ability to use magic were known as Ciercelese and were sent to Ciercel to learn how to use their magic. They were viewed as blessed by Ciena, the goddess who the Ciercelese believed created Aciena, and therefore they were chosen to rule those who don't have the ability to use magic. The people of Durain were forced by the Ciercelese to work as slaves on farms and raise livestock for the Cierelese to use in their magical sacrificial rituals.

Ciena is formed of three consubstantial persons known as Cierae, Cieneas, and Cierona. They are all distinct and yet one being. To use magic, you must make a sacrifice to one part of Ciena, and depending on the type of sacrifice, one of her persons will grant the mage temporary power. Cierona accepts animal sacrifices, Cierae accepts human sacrifice, and Cieneas accepts self-sacrifice. Most Ciercelese choose to worship one part of Ciena and will specialize in that kind of sacrificial magic. However, there are limitations to drawing upon Ciena’s power and if a mage does it too often, Ciena will curse them depending on the type of sacrificial magic that has been called upon too many times. There was a Ciercelese mage known as Galthius who worshipped Cierae and would use thousands of Durainian slaves in his rituals (which had been banned only 30 years prior and the worshipping of Cierae was becoming taboo). Those who use too much of Cierae’s powers turn into demons that have to feast upon the life source of humans to continue to live. The Ciercelese had created a force of mages who are supposed to catch anyone before they change, but Galthius had been doing his rituals in secret and had transformed before anyone had noticed.

Unfortunately for the Ciercelese, because of Galthius, the Durainians knew that they were being killed by Ciercelese and were restless. As a demon, Galthius knew that he would soon be killed off by the Ciercelese, and so he decided to use the restlessness of the Durainians. One night he presented himself to a Durainian slave called Glor, and told him that the Ciercelese goddess was actually a devil. That Galthius himself was the true God and the Durainians were his children. Galthius told Glor that he was the chosen one to deliver his people from bondage and destroy the Ciercelese and their wickedness. Glor believed Galthius, and Galthius possessed Glor’s body thus giving him what the Durainians came to see were the powers of a true god. Glor became Glorthius, the god and deliverer of the Durainians, and the Durainians were able to overthrow the Ciercelese partly by the power of Glorthius and also by withholding and killing the animals that the Ciercelese sacrificed for power.

All magic was banned and Glorthius set up a church to worship him and to also remove magic from amongst the people. The position of Glorthius passes between the eldest living son, and Galthius possesses each of them when they rule. Now, about 100 years later a...

Hey there! My name is Quinn and I'm a teenager living in Texas that has always loved the idea of worldbuilding since I first watched Lord of the Rings when I was around seven. I've always done a lot of it in my mind, but I never put it down on paper which causes me to lose ideas I have in the middle of the night or when I'm with friends. So I decided recently (today) that I was going to start keeping track of all my ideas. I made myself a map, well I made two but I can't decide which I should use. I'm slowly building the cultures and civilizations that may take place in my world, and I'm already having a blast!

Happy to be in the tribe! :) (tribe sounds so much better than sub)

Im l337Ninja, I go by just "Ninja" or "l337" for short. I'm American student who world builds as a hobby, but secretly can't wait for the chance to DM for others in a world of my design. My universe mainly will deal with a numerically and economically stronger human kingdom's rivalry with the technologically stronger but smaller population of the desert kingdom. The unique feature of my world will be that its coasts are dangerous and mostly untravellable due to the numerous coastal dragons, so all trade must pass through the desert kingdom's land at the center of the Pangaea style continent(Which they hold onto due to their unique tech, but that deserves a post in itself).

I'm "desync" - or Ryan, as my actual name is. I'm a 2nd year student of Chemistry at university, despite being a lot stronger at maths and having a stronger interest in other fields of science. I enjoy the scientific side of world-building and tend to do a lot of my own maths, particularly when it comes down to astronomy.

My main project is a future (and alternate) Earth, set in the 25th century AD, using hard scifi elements with some fantasy elements at its core. I'm still tweaking small justifications regarding the background story but I've reached the stage where I've begun to write the 'initial final draft' for a story which I've been trying to write for 8 or 9 years. My side-project, and loosely related, is a world on the brink of an industrial revolution.

Worldbuilding isn't my foremost hobby, nor my longest-standing one. I'm an oboist in the majority of my spare time and, since I finished my programming module in the last academic year, I've started to look into spare-time game development (writing in C#, using Unity 5). Hopefully my side-project will take the form of a game when I've assembled a team!

Hi! I'm Green, an 18 year old Belgian Multimedia and Digital Arts student.

I've been writing small stories since I was about 12 years old and I started worldbuilding about two years ago with a collection of random maps based on dreams. I've been seriously worldbuilding since a little less than a year and I've so far managed to stick with the same world.

Zalynn is a jungle-dominated continent on my planet where most of my stories take place. My setting is early to late medieval and focusses a lot on the politics and conflicts of the world. I am planning to write a series of novels set in this universe where I'll be following several influential characters in a particularly eventfull 20 years for my world.

Anyways, I'm glad to be in the tribe. I'll see you around! ;)

Hi, I'm melior. I almost always lurk, but I ended up on the worldbuilding irc today because of the blackout (as n0lla) and actually participated for once. It's been fun, so I decided to give snapzu a try. I have a ton of scattered notes for a slightly soft sci-fi rpg setting I'm working on, which takes place during the 21st and 22nd centuries and deals with the advancement and subsequent near-destruction of humanity and the further disasters in the desperate scramble to the closest habitable planet.

I'm Civ'ed, a teenage dutchman who, well yeah. Most of my work is alternate history, because creativity is not my strong suit. some of my current projects include an alternate history where more african nations survive the late 19th century, a future description of a mecha sports league, and a fantasy mad max.

I'm Vulfe. In real life, I do mathematics. i have worked on a few worlds in both the settings of science fiction and medieval-style fantasy, but I find it much easier to create interesting things in the latter setting. I have a bad habit of not writing things down which I am seeking to abolish. Other creative interests of mine are poetry, graphic design, and music.

Hello, I'm Vaporwave. I'm currently building a world for our weekly dungeons and dragons game, which I dm. Although we may also switch to a game called Ryuutama. All that aside I enjoy looking for new music, 3d modeling, and currently Terraria and New Vegas. If anyone is interested, I have a map of my world that I've drawn and scanned in, and some of my players have helped make tiles digitally. Its only the western side of one continent, but each block is about 1500miles squared, and we only have played on one of them so far.

Hi guys! I'm extremely new to worldbuilding. I'm a writer, but none of my stories really require intense worldbuilding. I've been thinking about doing a sci-fi world. The idea is pretty exciting, but the execution sounds daunting at times. I'm starting with a town and am trying to establish a general feel of who lives there, what kinds of aliens live on the planet, their level of advancement. I'm both excited and terrified by the prospect of doing a sort of utopia or at the very least a nice place to live in. It'll be a challenge to keep it realistic enough.

I'm Yawgmoth, and I have a lot of different worlds I rotate, but I focus on my novel setting Iumendros, which is a low-fantasy setting at the start of a major industrial and social revolution. Other settings include a 1960s era Runepunk world and a bronze-aged world recovering from a recent ice age.
