    You wouldn't nessisarily have to frame it as being a gender issue, just that you wish to correct a misconception about your level of knowledge on a subject. I'm sorry you're in a situation where being assertive is perceived as creating drama, that is very dificult. It's unfortunate when you have to choose between "causing drama" and being silently uncomfortable with things, rather that being able to talk about your concerns in a mature way and not have someone hold that against you. Perhaps another user will have more helpful advice than I, but I do sympathize with your predicament.
