A Brazilian judge ordered wireless phone carriers to block access to Facebook Inc's (FB.O) WhatsApp for 72 hours throughout Latin America's largest country on Monday, the second such move against the popular messaging application in five months. The decision by the judge in the northeastern state of Sergipe applies to the five main wireless operators in Brazil and affects WhatsApp's more than 100 million users in the country.

WhatsApp has added end-to-end encryption to all of its messages – meaning that the company couldn't give information to governments, even if it wanted to. The latest version of the app will use security technology that means that messages can't be intercepted as they travel between devices. Encryption ensures that only a message's sender and recipient can read messages, stopping them from being intercepted on their journey.

At least one tech founder wasn't all that impressed by what he heard during Apple's annual developers conference on Monday. Jan Koum, the cofounder and CEO of WhatsApp, took a jab at Apple for unveiling some new features to iMessage that seem similar to those offered on his mobile messaging app.

The Iranian regime has banned access to the WhatsApp messaging site, a popular site for many to communicate both inside and outside the country, stating that a Jewish “American Zionist” owns the site.
