YouTube users are becoming increasingly frustrated with the platform's handling of copyright complaints. Legitimate videos are being claimed or removed based on false claims, either by automated mistakes or intentional abuse. Perhaps it's time for YouTube to hold 'abusive' copyright holders responsible for their actions?

Vox has an explainer today about how YouTube automatically steers users toward deranged and conspiratorial videos, even if the users have started out with perfectly ordinary interests. This has been explained before, but it keeps needing to be explained because it’s so incomprehensible in normal human terms: YouTube’s algorithms, which are built to keep people watching as many videos and video ads as possible, have apparently followed that instruction to the conclusion, as Zeynep Tufekci wrote in the New York Times, “that people are drawn to content that is more extreme than what they started with—or to incendiary content in general.”

No matter what it calls its shift in strategy, the premium scripted content game is all but over.

Youtube is littered with sketchy mass-produced videos made by automated bots, and Google is doing almost nothing to stop it.

Guys .. This is a very special day for me. It’s the 12 year (!!!) anniversary of when I first began putting out content through my long-form video series Wine LibraryTV. It’s an important day for me to reflect and celebrate as it cemented so many of the core principles I still hold true today. First and foremost, I am not an overnight success. I am humbled, grateful and honored that most of you reading this have only just discovered me in the last 6-12-18-24 months, but in truth, I began putting out content long before that.

YouTube is going to make it harder for small video makers to make money. The world’s largest video site will kick thousands of people out of its ad revenue-sharing program, and will make it much harder for new ones to get into the program. The change, which goes into effect today, is one of YouTube’s responses to a year of criticism it has generated for a series of scandals involving questionable and offensive content that has appeared on the site.
