Following a weekend of more gang-related shootings in the B.C. city, Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner says she wants the power to force gangsters to pay their own medical bills.

There were more calls for action today following a series of shootings that happened over the weekend in Surrey. RCMP said two of the last three shootings, which sent four men to hospital, are connected to the on-going drug war in Surrey.

A British Columbia Mountie who posed as a homeless man - sort of - says the tactic was an effective way to catch drivers using cellphones or not wearing their seatbelts.

Police say they shot and killed a man in the middle of a stabbing rampage on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside after he refused to drop his knife and began stabbing a woman right in front of them.Vancouver police Sgt. Randy Fincham said police responded to reports of a man stabbing people near the First United Church at Hastings and Gore around 5 p.m. PT. When police arrived, Fincham said, they found the man wielding a knife outside the church on Gore Street.

Vancouver, once a city with its own unique spin on Canadian ideals and culture, is well on its way to becoming a vacation city for the world’s rich, its economy transforming into one predicated almost entirely on catering to their luxurious proclivities, and its citizens transformed into modern serfs permitted to live in smaller dwellings on the city’s periphery, if you’ll allow me to exaggerate for effect.
