Dog, believed killed by neighbor, turns up in Greenville year later, 68 miles from home
A family in Greenwood thought their dog was gone forever, until they got a call from a woman 70 miles away in Greenville, a year after they were told the pit bull was dead. Esther Atkins, of Greenville, who happens to be a world-class marathon runner, posted on social media that she took her dog, Grace, for a morning walk Thursday in the Skyland Park of Nicholtown. Atkins said a brown and white pit bull followed them home, and even though Grace was not friendly to him, the pit bull kept being sweet and wagging his tail.

The auction took place on a mild Wisconsin morning. Yet, standing in front of an expectant crowd, 15-year-old Waylon Klitzman was sweating. "I was nervous," he told CNN. "I'm not that guy that talks to a lot of people. I'm not really a very good social guy." He self-consciously hoisted a sign with his hog's picture as an auctioneer shouted a gibbering flow of syllables only seasoned livestock bidders understand.

Home Depot workers build lemonade stand for boy with cancer
An 8-year-old Florida boy wanted to raise money for a family friend who is battling an aggressive form of childhood cancer. So he and his mother went to a Home Depot for supplies to build a lemonade stand, except they received a lot more than that. Dawn Redmon and her son, Christian, called the Home Depot store in Apopka with the hope that they'd considering making some sort of donation or giving a discount on the items to build the lemonade stand.

4-year-old girl saves family from burning home
A 4-year-old girl helped save her family from a burning home in the Paxon neighborhood of Jacksonville's Westside on Thursday afternoon. The pint-sized hero alerted her mother, two other adults and her 2-year-old brother that their house was on fire, allowing them all to get out safely. Mesha Farland was the first person to see the fire break out about 1:30 p.m. inside the home on Rhonda Street near West First Street.

The boy’s family realized that he probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy one more Christmas. So they decided to celebrate early, putting up a tree and decorations, and their Ohio neighborhood followed suit. “In his mind it is just Christmas,” said McKenzie Allen, 21, Brody’s sister. “He woke up one day and the Christmas tree was out. He doesn’t know it isn’t really Christmas. He is just enjoying it.”

Students raise money to send a janitor on the first vacation he's had in almost a decade
Custodian Herman Gordon has been spreading kindness at Bristol University for more than 11 years. This summer, students of the UK university decided it was time to return the favor. Students launched a crowdfunding campaign to send Gordon, originally from Jamaica, on a weeklong trip to Kingston to see his family for the first time in nearly a decade. "I started it because I know everybody loves Herman for his happy energy," said medical student Hadi Al-Zubaidi, who had the idea for the fundraiser. "I thought sending him to his home country of Jamaica would be a beautiful way of giving back for all that he does."
