Sony Group Corp. said Tuesday that Nobuyuki Idei, its former chairman and CEO who led the Japanese giant's push into the digital network business, has died of liver failure. He was 84. In addition to enhancing Sony's presence in the digital and communications fields, he also focused on the entertainment business, such as movies, music and game consoles, laying the foundation for its current operations.

PlayStation keeps pushing into TV and film with a Horizon Zero Dawn Netflix series
Sony is continuing to go all in on turning its flagship video games into TV shows and movies — according to Variety, the company announced that it’s making a show based on Horizon Zero Dawn with Netflix at an event for investors. Sony is also working on a movie based on the Gran Turismo series, according to Deadline, but hasn’t found a distributor for it yet, and could feature Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) as its director. (I’m very curious as to what the plan for this series is — Variety just says it’ll be about “racing.”)

PlayStation 3 games have started showing up across the PlayStation 5 store, fuelling speculation that Sony will begin making the games available for consumers across the platform in the near future. As originally spotted by VGC, the PS5 currently supports backward compatibility on PS4 titles, however, only allows access to certain PS3 games via Sony's PlayStation Now service.
