In the event of a mass extinction, which humans should deserve priority in survival?

        Wow! Half of humanity is a pretty large portion. I don't know if it's really to 'mass extinction' levels at that point.

        I'd say the easiest way to slice it would be a simple matter of age. The oldest 50 percent of humanity dies, leaving the 50 percent with the most potential time to flourish. While going through on a case by case basis may produce a slightly better list, it would take far too much time in an emergency.

    I'd say the very first priority is people who are able to reproduce, and would make strong children. Strong in the sense of "having the most chances of surviving a hostile environment". But that's just in the worst of catastrophic scenarios where the bare human race survival is at stake.

    Then we have to look at people able to provide what is absolutely needed to keep these breeders and their children alive : agricultors, hunters, fishers, builders. And we move up the needs ladder until we have a working society.
